B.Tech Chemistry

It is joint course for first year B.Tech students of 5 credit. It covers the topics of thermodynamics, electrochemistry, organic reactions, polymer, materials and spectroscopy

Quantum Chemistry and Group Theory

CLR-1  Acquire knowledge about the basics of Quantum mechanics

CLR-2 Understand the application of quantum mechanics to 1D,3D and SHO systems

CLR-3 Understand the application of quantum mechanics to rigid rotators, hydrogen atoms, and many electron systems.

CLR-4 Gain knowledge about basic concepts of Group theory in chemistry

CLR-5 Understand the application of Group theory in chemistry

Chemical Bonding, Molecular Geometry and Group Theory

It is a four credit course.

At the end of the course the learner will be able to 

  • Define the types of bonds and draws the structures of crystals
  • Calculate the radius ratio of the crystal and enthalpy of formation of ionic compounds.
  • Explain the molecular topologies of covalent compounds and illustrate the MOT.
  • Relate the weak chemical bonding forces in predicting the properties of compounds and metals.
  • Distinguish the acidity and basicity of acids and bases.
  • Identify the molecular vibrations and chirality in compounds using group theory.
