CLR-5 Understand the application of Group theory in chemistry
It is a four credit course.
At the end of the course the learner will be able to
- Define the types of bonds and draws the structures of crystals
- Calculate the radius ratio of the crystal and enthalpy of formation of ionic compounds.
- Explain the molecular topologies of covalent compounds and illustrate the MOT.
- Relate the weak chemical bonding forces in predicting the properties of compounds and metals.
- Distinguish the acidity and basicity of acids and bases.
- Identify the molecular vibrations and chirality in compounds using group theory.
